About The Club

The Gulf Coast GSP Club is a family-oriented organization whose objective is to:

  1. ‣To encourage and promote the breeding of pure-bred German Shorthaired Pointers and to do all possible to bring their natural abilities to perfection.

  2. ‣To urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which the German Shorthaired Pointer shall be judged.

  3. ‣To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsman like competition at dog shows, field trials, obedience trials, tracking tests, agility trials, hunting tests and other competitive events.

  4. ‣To conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, field trials, obedience trials, tracking tests, agility trials and hunting tests under the rules of the American Kennel Club.

  6. ‣Spring Specialty Show in March (Houston, Texas)

  7. ‣Awards Banquet in April (Houston, Texas)

  8. ‣Water Test and Fun Day in May (Caldwell, Texas)

  9. ‣Summer Specialty Show and Obedience Trial in July (Houston, Texas)

  10. ‣2-Day Hunt Test in October (Caldwell, Texas)

  11. ‣Fall Field Trial in November (Location Varies)

  12. ‣Christmas Party in December (Houston, Texas)

Other Breeds

In our area, many pointing breeds don’t have active breed clubs like the Gulf Coast GSP Club.  Our club invites people with any pointing breed to come join in the fun and festivities.  As a result, we have members that represent virtually all of the pointing breeds.

When and Where We Meet

Meetings are the fourth Thursday of the month.  The November-December meeting is the first Thursday in December.

Club meetings are held at 7:30pm at the Gander Mountain store meeting located at 290 and Hwy 6. Gander Mountain is located at 19820 Hempstead Road in Northwest Houston. Go West on 290 to Fm 1960/Hwy 6. Click on map above to get directions.

Code of Ethics

This code is established as a guideline to protect and advance the interests of the German Shorthaired Pointer by maintaining high breeding standards and encouraging sportsmanlike competition at all dog events.  Members are strongly urged to adhere to the following guidelines:

Breeding

  1. ‣Breed only healthy adults of good temperament and qualities in relation to the AKC approved standard for the GSP.

  2. ‣Breed only AKC registered GSPs to AKC registered GSPs and keep accurate records of matings and puppies in accordance with AKC rules.

  3. ‣Breed only O.F.A. certified adults.

  4. ‣Breed only C.E.R.F. certified stock with certification being done not more than twelve months prior to breeding.

  5. ‣As a breeder, assume the responsibility for the welfare of any puppy you produce including a willingness to take a puppy back or assist in placing the dog in a new home.


Health

The best possible standards of canine health, cleanliness and veterinary care, including socialization with people and exposure to the outside world shall be maintained.


Sales

  1. ‣Puppies or adults shall not be consigned or sold to pet shops or commercial dealers.

  2. ‣Purchasers should be urged to spay/neuter pets that are not to be used for breeding.

  3. ‣Furnish buyers with a pedigree, AKC registration application, medical and immunization records, a feeding schedule, general care instructions and information about their local GSP club.


Sportsmanship

Members shall always conduct themselves in a manner which will reflect credit upon themselves, their German Shorthaired Pointer, and the sport of purebred dogs, regardless of the location or circumstance.
